Culture, communities and strong global connections will all feature on this special SKY TV programme on June 27th, with a film crew from IRISH TV filming at the Donegal Diaspora Conference held at Letterkenny Institute of Technology recently. The one hour programme ‘Out & About in Ireland’ will feature engaging interviews and lively debate on all matters concerning Donegal people, based both at home and away.
Organised by Donegal County Council, the Conference, entitled “Hands of History” is a celebration of the rich and diverse heritage and culture of Donegal, within the county and further afield. It aims to strengthen the bonds between Donegal people worldwide in the areas of culture, heritage, education, business and investment. The IRISH TV programme showcases these concepts and features exclusive interviews with high profile speakers at the event, including Prof. Frank Talty of UMass, Boston Globe journalist Kevin Cullen, and Sr. Lena Deevy, Director Emeritus of the Irish International Immigrant Centre to name but a few.
Speaking about the conference, Director of Service at Donegal County Council Michael Heaney commented “This is a significant event with outstanding speakers travelling to Donegal for it. We see the ‘Donegal people’ as not just those living in the county but those living across Ireland and the globe. Our people are a wonderful resource. We can share ideas on education, investment and culture for mutual benefit and help Donegal thrive. It’s great to have this event televised to an international audience because of course emigration is an international story”, commented Heaney.
IRISH TV presenter Edel Golden also commented on the programme. “IRISH TV is all about connecting people worldwide and televising the Donegal Diaspora Conference was a natural fit for us. So much of our audience is based in the UK, the US and elsewhere across the globe and it’s so important to remember our diaspora and highlight events and topics that concern them. I know they will really enjoy the Sky TV show,” commented Golden. The show can be viewed on SKY TV channel 191 or on Freesat 400 Thursday, June 27th at 9.00p.m. Alternatively you can watch the entire show online at http://www.irishtv.ie.
